Although rare, the dark sand beaches of volcanic origin are also natural to the island. Some feature stunning landscapes, such as ‘Prainha’ in Caniçal (near Ponta de São Lourenço) or Seixal Beach, where the black sand is framed by green mountains, creating a perfect contrast that highlights a beautiful landscape.
