Laser treatments are now a routine and highly effective procedure for removing many types of vascular lesions, including rosacea, superficial varicose veins, telangiectasias, spider veins, venous lakes, angiomas, hemangiomas, and vascular malformations such as port-wine stains and others.
The target chromophore of laser therapy in vascular lesions is intravascular oxyhaemoglobin, meaning that thermal damage is largely confined to the cutaneous blood vessels. The laser energy is absorbed by the blood within the vein, converted into heat, and subsequently destroys the vein walls.
Fotona’s Nd:YAG lasers penetrate 5–6 mm deep into the skin, allowing for highly effective treatments. Independent research shows that over 75% of patients with deep hemangiomas treated with Nd:YAG lasers report a marked regression of the lesion.
