Porto Santo Island

Another unmissable activity is a trip to Porto Santo – better known as the ‘golden island’ due to its golden sandy beaches, which contrast with the black sand and pebbles characteristic of Madeira’s natural beaches.

The ‘Lobo Marinho’ ship, a kind of ‘mini-cruise’, allows you to make the crossing from the port of Funchal.

The vessel has a capacity for 1,150 passengers and 145 cars and makes the trip between the two islands in two hours and 20 minutes. The trip is comfortable, as the ship has bars, a restaurant, a games room, a cinema, a children’s play area, a gift shop and a first-class area.

If you prefer, you can also travel by plane and reach Porto Santo in 15 minutes.
